Have you ever driven around town and noticed a giant box by a church or fire station and wondered why it was there in the first place? That giant box is one of nine boxes located around Arvada that are a part of FreeFoodNow, a program aimed at giving food and other items to a local community. These boxes were created to help communities to allow community members to connect with each other by providing items that will benefit others. All individuals have the opportunity to donate items that they believe will help their community such as food, books, and toys.
Two and a half years ago, Free Food Now was founded by Heath Rost of Personable Media with a dream that one day an individual could travel across the country without paying for food. Heath understands the struggles of individuals suffering from hunger because they cannot afford food and wants to help them by putting up sharing boxes that are intended to help communities. Heath developed the FreeFoodNow App to create awareness of the boxes in the Denver Metro Area, encouraging people to visit and donate to these boxes. In the future, he hopes to enhance the app by adding the locations of free meals for the hungry.
This summer, Personable Media began working on projects to increase awareness of Free Food Now. Summer interns Katie and Julia created an Instagram for the organization to create awareness about Free Food Now. The Instagram displays photos of the boxes and their location to encourage individuals to visit each location. FreeFoodNow’s Instagram presence hopes for an increasing awareness of the blessing boxes that encourages people to partake in this movement of a stronger community that is willing to share items amongst each other.
