You’re here its because you currently have a website built using the most popular website building tool on the planet, known as WordPress. And you’d like to either host your website yourself, or you’d like to pay a new website hosting provider to do it for you.
First things first, to move your website to a new hosting provider you need to have access to your website’s files.
A WordPress website’s files are made up of two parts.
1. Your website’s code base
2. Your website’s database
If you don’t have those two things there is still hope if you’re still able to Log In to your website, and have administrative permissions.
Any website hosting provider in 2025 will migrate a website to a new host if you can provide them administrative login details.
They will also migrate a website to a new host if you can provide them the WordPress files (code base) and database file.
So if you can help your new website host with either of those things, you’re in good shape!
What Are Some Reasons I Would Want To Switch My WordPress Website To A New Host?
At Personable Media we’ve been hosting and maintaining WordPress website’s for over a decade, and we’ve migrated more than 500 sites in that time. Allow me to share a few basic reasons clients come to us.
1-Your website is continually crashing or not online.
A client of ours built their website themselves, and they’d actually done a pretty good job of getting it ranked organically meaning they had a considerable amount of traffic hitting it every month. So it was important to them that it always be online. But they kept running into the issue of it crashing and having to revert it to an older version. And eventually the amount of time it was taking for them to maintain it themselves was too much to handle, and they wanted to reverse course and get it hosted and maintained the right way.
2-Your current website host is an internal employee that you need to let go.
Another client of ours called our hotline after searching for us on Google, and he shared that we were the only ones that actually answered the phone when he called. He was completely honest too that our company wasn’t the first he’d called, but we were the first to pick up the phone and that’s what mattered the most to him.
He was a little frantic, but wanted to meet with us within the next hour if possible so we could get his website moved over before something unexpected happened to it. The owner had a fear that his ex-employee would attempt to steal his company website and/or sabatage it in some way. Understandable. There was an event where the employee caused a scene and was terminated quickly and unexpectedly.
We met up with the client at an Office Evolution in Downtown Denver within a couple of hours and were able to have him sign our electronic agreement for monthly website hosting ($99/month) before migrating his website for free. I conferenced called my website hosting team lead, Justin, and we made sure to get his website moved over as quickly as we could, free of charge.
Most website hosts will migrate your website for free if you’re moving your WordPress website over to their servers, and that’s the case with us as well.
DO NOT: Ask your current website host to migrate your website for you and expect them to do it for free. If you don’t want to do the research to find a new website host like the client in this story did, you should be ready and willing to pay your existing website host whatever they ask to migrate your website for you. Be as cooroperative as you can with them.
LASTLY: If you don’t want to do the research, which if you’re reading this you absolutely are and you should have Personable Media migrate and host your website, then I suggest giving Godaddy a call.
3-Your current WordPress website isn’t ranking organically
We get people all the time that want to rank organically and want their website to actually drive new business for them. SEO is a service we provide for $1500 per month, and it’s a 12-month program. However, not everyone qualifies to work with us for that service. Our minimum requirements for technical SEO work are:
-Google Business Profile has been claimed and you have at least 10 positive 5-star reviews.
-You’re clear on your service offering and industry. Without knowing who your competitors are we don’t know how to outrank them.
4-Your WordPress website isn’t bringing you new business.
There are a number of reasons this is happening, and the overarching reason is there aren’t enough Trust Indicators built for you online. Trust indicators could be any of the following:
-Numerous positive 5-star reviews online
-Books you’ve written on your expertise
-How niched-down you are
-Excellent photos of you, your team and your offices/location.
-High quality Backlinks. Having authority-rich websites link back to your website help its credibility on organic search. Think your local chamber website or local online business directory websites.
And this list goes on and on.
Besides having numerous Trust Indicators online, you should also have an excellent website design. That’s pretty vague though, what I mean by that is your website should be an Online Conversion Mechanism or “OCM.” It should have great photography, video, user experience and copywriting. That’s where you’ll want to work with a professional that knows how to do all of those things. Yet Another reason people reach out to us.
